Cooler, fewer flies, less odour and less dust

Cooling is definitely the challenge of the day, especially during these months. Mariëlle van den Broek is busy with it as the importer of Skycooler in Europe. While she initially saw the hospitality industry as the main target audience, it is increasingly becoming the equestrian world. And it's tempting: small coolers in horse transport vehicles, larger ones at competitions, and now there are even stable systems connected to the water supply of the troughs, which lower the temperature and keep the flies away!

She got the idea while in South America, where Skycoolers could be found on terraces. Marielle van den Broek did her research, saw more possibilities with her background in the hospitality industry, and became a European importer. Then came the coronavirus, which brought everything to a halt.

The focus was on the hospitality industry, but in the meantime, her daughter Skylar had become more and more involved in riding at Janneke Boonzaaijer's stable. And Gert Boonzaaijer gave the suggestion: "Hey, you should do something with the equestrian world!" "Last year, I started at Outdoor Gelderland, where I got a spot in the warm-up area, and wouldn't you know it, those days it was 36 degrees Celsius," Marielle says. "Well, the riders wanted them: for their stables, for home, in a vacation home, you name it."

Permanent installation in the stables

But the applications kept expanding: "We developed a permanent system for the stables. It is connected to the water supply of the troughs, which brings many advantages. The temperature drops, the flies stay away, the dust settles, and the odour is reduced. It's wonderful to have a consistently cooler and fly-free stable. And it's also an energy-efficient system: 210 watts, comparable to a hairdryer."

Horse transport vehicles

The Skycoolers are now being installed in horse transport vehicles as well. "The horses love it; they come right up to the Skycooler to enjoy it. We designed them in a way that it doesn't harm the horses at all. I've been in the equestrian industry for a year now, and I'm meeting more and more people from various backgrounds. In agriculture, they want a Skycooler to keep onions or pears fresh in storage."
