PRESS RELEASE

A study at the University of Copenhagen, led by Associate Professor Adrian P. Harrison from the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (IVH) at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, supported by the European Development Fund, has investigated and documented the effects of Stallvärme's FIR Therapy Solarium on the muscle condition of horses, both statically and dynamically, during warm-up before training.

"The results of this study, which is the first of its kind, demonstrate the significant benefits of the Stallvärme FIR Therapy Solarium for horse welfare," says Associate Professor Adrian Harrison, who noted improved muscle symmetry. The horses in the trial showed improved muscle balance between the left and right sides in riding after 20-30 minutes under a FIR Therapy Solarium.

Using advanced sensor technology "Acoustic Myography," the trial measured the muscle condition of the horses after regular warm-up through riding for half of the horses. The other half received 20-30 minutes of treatment under the Stallwärme FIR Therapy Solarium instead. The study should assess the effectiveness of the Stallvärme FIR Therapy Solarium in optimizing the horses' warm-up routines and improving overall performance. The results provide convincing evidence of the benefits of this innovative technology in horse wellness and welfare.

The study shows:

  • Improved muscle symmetry: Horses demonstrated improved muscle balance between the left and right sides after 20-30 minutes under a FIR Therapy Solarium.
  • Increased muscle strength: Muscle strength and elasticity increased by nearly 50%.
  • The technology accelerated and enhanced the benefits typically achieved from traditional warm-up exercises, leading to improved power production during training sessions.
  • The study suggests that FIR Therapy Solarium treatment could be particularly beneficial for older, stiffer horses, as well as those with a sensitive topline, offering them improved balance, flexibility, and performance.
  • Reduced risk of training-related injuries to the horses' muscles and ligaments, particularly injuries caused during warm-up.

My only wish is to be able to bring it with me to shows.

A win-win on multiple fronts

Despite the benefits of the solarium horses need to be warmed up, but their muscles will be ready to work from the first step. In addition to the obvious biomechanical benefits of using the Stallvärme FIR Therapy Solarium, it can also shorten the drying time for horses that have been rinsed, while contributing to relaxation and essential muscle recovery after training sessions. Overall, this means generally increased well-being for high-performing horses.

The horse is a top athlete

"The results of the study underscore the importance of an evidence-based approach to horse welfare and highlight the potential of a Stallvärme FIR Therapy Solarium to optimize training while also improving overall well-being for horses," says Jessica Nelin, Managing Director of Stallwärme.

"A TOP HORSE ATHLETE HAS A FULL SCHEDULE EVERY DAY. OUR SOLARIUM SAVES TIME FROM OTHER MACHINES AND THERAPY TOOLS, AS YOU CAN CLIP, DRY, BRUSH, MASSAGE OR SADDLE UP YOUR HORSE DURING THE THERAPY SESSION"
