Horse age vs. human age – How old is your horse?

Do you know how old your horse would be right now if it were a human? If not, it's completely understandable because it's not so easy to figure out. A horse doesn't develop at the same rate throughout its life, and therefore, it undergoes a larger leap in its development until it reaches the age of 5, compared to the rest of its life. That's what Dr. Jornigan, the British veterinarian, believes, and he has developed a method to calculate a horse's age in human years. According to him, the horse's age compared to a human's is as follows:

1st horse year = 12 human years.
2nd horse year = 7 human years.
The following 3 horse years = 4 human years each.
The remaining horse years = 2.5 human years each.
