Malgré Tout attended the Falsterbo Horse Show on Wednesday the 10th of July and here are our highlights. Read more about the Swedish equestrian event of the summer and see if this makes it on your bucket list for the summer.
The Falsterbo Horse Show, a celebrated event with a rich history dating back to 1920, has evolved into a cornerstone of the equestrian world. The event truly began to take shape in 1969 with the first Swedish Derby in show jumping. Since 1986, Falsterbo Horse Show AB has overseen the event, expanding it into one of the premier outdoor horse show venues globally.
Falsterbo Horse Show presented by Longines is the largest equestrian event in Sweden and the biggest outdoor sports event in the nation. It provides a fantastic platform for Swedish riders and horses to showcase their talents on an international stage without leaving their home country. Fans of horse sports have the chance to witness top-tier competitions, see their favorite riders up close, and fully engage with the sport they love.
This renowned event brings together a diverse group of participants, including riders, sponsors, exhibitors, horses, spectators, and volunteers. They all gather in the picturesque setting of Falsterbo, 20 minutes south of Malmö, enjoying the event of the summer. It’s a unique celebration where the love for horses and the excitement of the show come together perfectly.
The Falsterbo Horse Show (6-14 July 2024) offers a wide array of events across various equestrian disciplines, making it a diverse and thrilling experience for the whole family.
In the disciplines of show jumping and dressage, riders from different countries compete from Youth Cups to adult riders. One highlight is the Falsterbo Hunting presented by Vellinge Kommun on Wednesday, another will be the FEI Dressage Nations Cup Grand Prix presented by Novare on Saturday. Next to dressage and jumping competitions, the show also features Icelandic horse events, such as the Falsterbo Icelandic Power presented by Agria, and various family-friendly activities, including dog exhibitions, agility shows, western riding, the police cavalry and the family corner with numerous interactive attractions for all ages.

The day started with the NAF Five Star Magic Pony Grand Prix, a jumping event with a height of 1.30 m, for young riders, born in 2002 or later, who competed in a thrilling class with their D ponies including a jump-off. Congratulations to Viggo Bergstrand with Gaoth Mhara Lad riding two clear rounds and bringing home the win for Sweden. Followed by the Theault Youth Grand Prix at 1.40/1.45 m and the Krafft Tour of Amateurs with a height of 1.25 both including a jump-off.
In the dressage arena, the Folksam Open 6-year-old semi-final took place in the morning, followed by the Gina Tricot Pony Freestyle qualification. These events highlighted the elegance and precision of dressage, offering a platform for both young and seasoned horses and riders to display their skills in a structured and graceful environment. Congratulations to Swedish Wilma Bornhager with Tackmann's Hochgenuß (73.483) on winning, followed by two Danish riders: Agnes Ørnskov Beier with Strandgaards Mangold (73.050) in second place and Amalie Juliane Danvad Fredbøg with Spirit Kick (71.417) in third place.
The Falsterbo Hunting Class offers an exhilarating mix of cross-country and show jumping at a height of 1.30 m. This distinctive event features a course that includes around 19 cross-country jumps. The riders start in the international showjumping arena, go on a course around the exhibition area, and end with a few final jumps in the prestigious international showjumping arena.
This year, 16 pairs started in the fierce competition on Wednesday afternoon, which showcases top-tier talent. 14 riders from Sweden, one from Finland, and Denmark’s Mia Hastrup with Mario Gomez have competed. Riders and their horses must demonstrate exceptional versatility, tackling a variety of natural and traditional obstacles. The Falsterbo Hunting Class is a must-see event, providing a captivating blend of speed, skill, and spectacle in the beautiful setting of Falsterbo. Congratulations to Sweden’s Amanda Andersson with Double Carat, winning the Hunting class with a time of 218.80 (214.80+4).
