ELDORADO IS A DANISH FAMILY-OWNED
COMPANY, FOUNDED IN 1963.
Eldorado begins in 1963, when Børge and Birgit Lausen open a pet shop in Haderslev. In the following 10 years, a total of eight stores are opened in Jutland and on Funen. As the number of shops increased, it became natural to import goods themselves. In the beginning, imports consisted mainly of live birds and fish. The wholesale department developed rapidly, however, and by the early 1970s it had overtaken the shops. It was necessary to decide in which direction the company should develop. As it was difficult to manage the retail stores at that time because there were no barcodes or other electronic aids, the choice fell on the wholesale department. This decision led to the dismantling of the stores and in 1982 the last store was sold, the Haderslev branch, where it all began almost 20 years earlier.
